Aculon® has a variety of surface modification technologies capable of functionalizing watch and timekeeping substrates to have drastically improved performance. Aculon's® coatings and treatments significantly alter the performance of precision substrates with easy to apply, durable, and optically clear treatments. These coatings can functionalize surfaces to be hydrophilic erties, repellent (hydrophobic & oleophobic) for ease of cleaning and antifouling properties, and to have improved adhesive characteristics. Our Repellent technologies will yield a robust a long lasting hydrophobic and oleophobic surface. Typical water contact angles (measurement of surface energy) are in the 115°-120° range and typical oil contact angles are in the 75°-85° range. These treatments are nanoscale, as thin as 2-4 nm thin leaving your part visually unchanged and optically clear. A self assembling process ensures a uniform and even treatment every time!
Our hydrophilic technologies are thin and optically clear and will yield a robust and long lasting hydrophilic surface. Typical water contact angles (measurement of surface energy) are in the <10° range. Common uses include creating fog free optical surfaces. Our adhesion promotion technologies improve adhesive and bonding characteristics of oxide containing surfaces such as, metals, semiconductors, glass and synthetic sapphire commonly used in timekeeping applications. By directly functionalizing the substrate surface, delamination and adhesive failure are significantly reduced. These treatments enables improved adhesive performance in addition to elimination of more complicated and costly processes for improving adhesion.
