Aculon® has a variety of surface modification technologies capable of functionalizing synthetic sapphire to have repellent hydrophobic and oleophobic properties. Aculon's® synthetic sapphire coatings and treatments significantly decrease the fouling impacts of oils and solvents which has significant performance impacts in many applications.  In addition these coatings are ultra thin (nanoscale), optically clear and quite durable. How it Works

What is sapphire repellency technology?

Aculon® patented sapphire repellency treatments are successful in environments characterized by difficult to access locations in extreme conditions or where high concentrations of oily residues and grimy deposits occur. Synthetic sapphire lenses are often expected to remain functional for sensitive optics and sensors without fouling for long periods of time without cleaning.  Aculon®  sapphire coatings enable proper function of these critical devices without significant and costly downtime for cleaning.
