Electronics Waterproofing Coating Technology

Aculon®s award-winning waterproof coating technologies improve the performance of all electronics by protecting circuit boards from accidental water immersion and total submersion. Easier to use and more scalable than conformal or parylene coatings, NanoProof® performance ranges from accidental water contact to IPX7 and beyond.

Electronics Waterproofing Coating Solutions. Long Lasting Performance.

Aculon® award-winning NanoProof® Series offer customers a range of PCB & electronics waterproofing coating solutions for protecting against accidental water damage to IPX7, immersion in water at one meter depth for 30 minutes, to greater barrier properties that can withstand 100 hours immersion in sweat solutions and some of the most stringent test methods developed for non-hermetic components. The technology you need in NanoProof®

Aculon NanoProof® Series of electronics waterproofing coating technologies uses a mix of Aculon® Proprietary Transition Metal Complexate technology (TMC) and fluorinated acrylic polymers to achieve a series of products that are compatible with all of the common material types used in SMT parts. Aculon® NanoProof® series are sprayable or dip based treatments that do not require a cure and have no impact on conductivity testing. While some of the NanoProof® series are so thin that they are invisible to naked eye, all of the Nanoproof® series contain a UV tracer to ensure detection at customer sites.

Features of the NanoProof® Series include:

  • Flexible Application Methods-Spray, Dispense, Jet, Dip
  • Ability to protect many substrates on a PCB
  • High Post treatment water & oil contact angles
  • “Push through connectivity” capability
  • Non Toxic, ROHS and REACH compliant
  • Dry time – from 5 – 60 minutes at room temperature*
  • No cure required
  • UV Tracer

Benefits of the NanoProof® Series include:

  • Improved Device Reliability
  • From accidental submersion (IPX 4), water immersion for 30 minutes (IPX7) to prolonged immersion (IPX 8)*
  • Reduced cost and warranty returns due to device failures
  • Improves Yields, Reduce Returns, & Reduce Cost
  • Eliminate costly vacuum deposition equipment
  • Improve throughput with In-Line Process
  • Flexible Treatments resist cracking/flaking

Push Through Connectivity

Electrical connections can be made through the NanoProof® treatments in many cases. NanoProof® 1.0, 4.0, and 8.4 have push-through connectivity capability, while 2.0, 5.1, and 7.0 allow for push-through connectivity within 20 minutes of treating the board.

Performance you can trust

Aculon® NanoProof® Series of electronics waterproofing coatings offer customers a range of PCB waterproofing solutions from protecting against accidental water damage (NanoProof® 1.0) to IPX8, immersion in water at one meter depth for 30 minutes, to greater barrier properties that can withstand 100 hours immersion in sweat solutions and some of the most stringent test methods developed for non-hermetic components.

Aculon® conducted IPX testing which determined that NanoProof® delivers performance above the IPX-7 benchmark.

NanoProof® coatings outperform traditional conformal coatings & parylene!

Application of parylene and more traditional conformal coatings has been used for some time to enhance the lifetime and reliability of electronics made to operate in harsh environments. There are several key differences that set NanoProof PCB & electronic waterproofing technologies apart from these outdated technologies!

  • Uniform Coatings with Good Edge Coverage
  • Extremely quick dry times
  • Up to IPX8 levels of protection
  • Easy to rework
  • No masking needed
  • Flexible application methods

  • Difficulty maintaining uniform thickness.
  • Poor edge coverage
  • Long cure times
  • Reworking is extremely difficult
  • Masking is complicated and time intensive
  • High viscosity formulations lead to limited application methods

  • Extremely expensive capital equipment
  • Long batch times
  • Low throughput and high labor costs
  • Reworking is impossible or extremely difficult
  • Masking is complicated and time intensive
  • Difficult to do selective deposition

NanoProof® Screening Service

The NanoProof® Screening Service is ideal for situations where you do not want to deal with figuring out how to apply the encapsulant to your board. Aculon® will treat your boards utilizing our applications and return to you for immediate qualification.

NanoProof® Customized Solution

For parts that are complicated, require formulary work, or selective/complex treatment, Aculon® can work directly with you on your application. We will customize a solution to fit your specific needs. Once a solution has been determined, Aculon® will assist with implementation in your facility and bulk chemistry and cleaning solutions can be delivered on a monthly/weekly basis to meet your production needs.

Key questions to consider for waterproofing your boards:

  • Is full immersion or incidental moisture protection required?
  • Do you have a specific thickness requirement or need for a flexible treatment?
  • What are the exposure conditions the selected treatment (and treated product) must survive?
  • Is there a desired application method? (Spray, Dispense, etc)
  • Does the part require selective application to only certain areas?
  • Are there low/no VOC requirements in your production facility?
