San Diego, CA (November 13, 2018) – Aculon Inc, produced a webinar recently where Senior Business Development Manager Mario Gattuso spoke to the electronics industry about its options for performance and application methods for PCB waterproofing options, including Aculon’s line of NanoProof® PCB waterproofing products. Aculon is a surface modification company that specializes in creating thin film repellant treatments.
During the webinar, titled “PCB Waterproofing – Selecting the Right Solution”, Gattuso also provided detailed information of NanoProof’s waterproof applications including mobile phones, hearing aids, Bluetooth devices, household “smart” electronics, and other electronics with requirements ranging from IPX3 through IPX8.
The webinar, which was broadcast live on November 1, 2018, builds on Aculon’s goal of supporting electronics device manufacturers with waterproofing technologies for commercial and public benefit.
NanoProof PCB hydrophobic surface treatment was developed using a mix of Aculon’s proprietary transition metal complexate (TMC) technology and fluorinated acrylic polymers. The series of NanoProof products are compatible with all common material types used in SMT parts and are sprayable or dip-based coatings that do not require a cure and have no impact on conductivity testing. While some of the NanoProof series are so thin that they are invisible to naked eye, all the NanoProof series contain a UV tracer to ensure detection at customer sites.
A live broadcast of the PCB waterproofing webinar can be viewed on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muCt_Ba-PLw&feature=youtu.be. The white paper compares a range of waterproofing technologies and defines the role of Aculon’s NanoProof for waterproofing electronics with an IP (ingress protection) rating of 7 and 8, a standard drawn up by the International Electrotechnical Commission that indicates immersion in one meter of liquid for an extended period of time. It can be downloaded from the Aculon site: http://www.aculon.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Aculon-PCB-Waterproofing-IPX-Level-7-8.pdf
- Electronics manufacturers are challenged to find reliable, economical and high-performance materials that minimizes or mitigates the damage that compromises safety and operation of electronic devices.
- Conformal coatings are not designed to protect devices from direct contact with water.
- No mask conformal coatings are capable of forming a ‘true’ conformal coating that maintains consistent thicknesses across complex parts which provides much greater water resistance when compared with traditional conformal coatings.
Aculon periodically holds webinars to share information with the electronics markets.
